Girls’ Tag Rugby at Dundalk RFC

Tag Rugby is entering its 8th season at Dundalk Rugby Club. We cater for girls from the ages of 7-12 years. Tag Rugby is a non-contact team game in which each player wears a belt that has two velcro tags attached to it, or shorts with velcro patches. The mode of play is similar to rugby league with attacking players attempting to dodge, evade and pass a rugby ball while defenders attempt to prevent them scoring by "tagging"- pulling a velcro attached tag from the ball carrier. Tag Rugby is an ideal sport for those who don’t class themselves as particularly skilled at team sports. Tag Rugby allows even the lesser skilled children to experience success at a team sport.  Tag Rugby perfectly covers all these requirements in a safe, fun and challenging environment.

Last season Dundalk RFC’s Tag girls came out tops in a Leinster Blitz in Navan RFC at the end of the season. Three teams travelled from Dundalk and between them played at least 20 games, losing none of them. The Under 13’s came away with the cup seeing off tough opposition From Boyne, Navan and Blackrock RFC. The girls also got the opportunity to line out at the half-time interval of the Women’s Six Nations game against France in Ashbourne RFC and have played in front of a sell-out crowd at the half-time interval in the RDS at a Leinster game.

Training takes place every Saturday morning at 10.30am in the Rugby Club on the Mill Road and all are welcome.
