Dundak u17's had a well deserved victory over near rivals Boyne in an enthralling encounter at mill road on saturday.
Despite the away side taking an early lead with a breakaway try that went unconverted. Dundalk then began to stamp some authority on the game with some strong play at the breakdown from Ciaran Lennon and James mcCann to name but a few. After some concerted pressure inside the Boyne 22 fly half Daniel mc Sherry gave a nice pass out to Joseph Hanna who went over for a try that was converted by mc Sherry. Soon after Dundalk were once again camped on the Boyne try line and after several attempts Daragh Conroy got in at the post for a try that was again converted by mc Sherry. Dundalk moved up a gear and after yet another strong scrum, notably from Patrick mc Ardle and matt raftis no.8 Tiernan Gonnelly went over for another try. Dundalk were now in total control and after another good set play Dylan Martin broke free and passed inside to gonnelly who then off loaded to ross murphy to go over for the try that wasn't converted. Despite Dundalk being 26-5 up at the start of the 2nd half Boyne responded with two tries to get within 7 points to set up a nail biting last ten minutes. Dundalk yet again found another gear and spent the remainder of the game in the opposition 22 and off another strong scrum the ball came out to Conor Lenihan who ran some lovely lines all day, to pass out to captain Gonnelly who went in for his second try of the day. It only remained for fly half mc Sherry to convert and seal a well deserved 33-19 win for Dundalk.
