Back into the Leinster League on Saturday for Dundalk took on Enniscorthy at their home grounds at Ross road .After a three hour bus journey early on Saturday morning. It was a perfect day for a great game of rugby and quite a surprise for early December. Enniscorthy knew they need to go at Dundalk early in the match and that’s exactly what they did with only 5 minutes on the clock quick hands from their backs got them over Dundalk’s try line to hit an early blow and converted it 7-0. With a large home support and light wind behind Enniscorthy it wasn’t looking good for Dundalk when on the 15minute mark they crossed the try line to make it 12-0.
Dundalk finally started to get through some phases with the ball and the old spark of how Dundalk can play was starting to shine again with that they were awarded a penalty and MJ Mc Kevitt slotted it between the posts 12-3, Dundalk’s scrum and lineout was operating very well at this stage and it started to show with the backs getting good ball to play off and gaps opening up for them they had Enniscorthy under pressure which resulted in another penalty in front of the post on the 30 minutes mark which Mc Kevitt converted12-6.
Dundalk was doing all the playing of rugby in this part of the game but with Enniscorthy been cynical at the break down the referee had enough and sin bin there number 7 and awarded another penalty to Dundalk which Mc Kevitt converted 12-9.Halftime came just in time for Enniscorthy and the pressure was getting to them and at the worst time for Dundalk as it affected their great momentum .
Dundalk where now play with a slight wind but it died down shortly after the kick off. On the 45 minute mark Dundalk where awarded a penalty on the Enniscorthy 10 meter line and Mc Kevitt had a shot but it drifted just wide. Dundalk were keeping Enniscorthy inside their own half and were building phases of play until they would have a over lap which a score would a rise, So on the 50 minute the chance was there to be taken when a pass went a stray only for Enniscorhty to capitalise on this and pick it up and run the pitch to score under the post to relive the pressure.19-9 Dundalk weren’t going to give up as they knew how good they where playing except for that pass. On the 60 minute a carbon copy of what happened 10 minutes earlier as Dundalk were inside the Enniscorthy 22 meter line had gone through 8 phases and a chance out wide to score to put them right back into this game when a pass was intercepted for another 50meter run to score under the Dundalk posts 26-9.
