It is with great sadness that we inform club members and friends of the passing of Brian Byrne, affectionately known to many as "Bonzo."
Brian was a true club legend — a man who gave so much to both Dundalk RFC and his home club, Arklow. His reputation and influence extended far beyond Leinster, and he was known and respected throughout Ireland and beyond.
Renowned for his toughness in the front row, Brian began his rugby journey alongside his brothers in the southeast before bringing that same grit and passion to Dundalk when he relocated for work with Diageo. As a senior player at Dundalk, he left a lasting mark on the field, and his contribution off the pitch was even more extraordinary.
Over the years, Brian coached teams at every age level, served as 1st team manager, touch judge, and even club president. He was the longest-serving committee member in the club’s history and the driving force behind the ongoing transformation of Dundalk RFC.
Brian’s dedication, leadership, and deep love for the game shaped the spirit of our club. His legacy will endure in every corner of Dundalk RFC and in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
To Emma, Simon, Avril, Megan, and the Byrne family — we are forever grateful for the incredible man you shared with us.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
